Co-Director Caren Cooper

Associate Professor

Caren Cooper joined NC State in March 2016 as a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program cluster hire in Leadership in Public Science. She is an associate professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources in the College of Natural Resources. Her research focuses on ornithology, human dimensions of conservation, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the participatory sciences.

Co-Director Zakiya Leggett

Associate Professor

Zakiya Leggett joined NC State in December 2016. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources in the College of Natural Resources. Her research focuses on the sustainability of intercropping in pine plantations and diversity, equity, and inclusion in science. Zakiya is the Campus Director of the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program. She is also the Program Coordinator of the Scholars for Conservation Leadership Program.

Brianna Johns

Campus Coordinator

Brianna is an undergraduate student at NC State pursuing a B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in International Studies. She is a co-founder of Citizen Science Club at NC State, the first undergraduate student organization focused on citizen science. She has also served as the program

assistant to the Leadership in Public Science faculty cluster. Her interests include community science, equity in STEM education, and interdisciplinary approaches to scientific research. She was awarded a grant for the 2019-2020 academic year from NC State’s Office of Undergraduate Research to study university student perspectives on citizen science.

Cameron Bowen

Content Specialist

Cameron Bowen joined the Citizen Science Campus team as a Content Specialist in October 2019. He received his B.A. in English from North Carolina State University and is currently pursuing his M.S. in Technical Communication here at N.C. State. Cameron’s hobbies include cheering on the Wolfpack and spending time with his dog, Olsen.
