NC State is an organizational affiliate of the Association for Advancing Participatory Sciences (AAPS), a member-driven organization that connects people from a wide range of experiences around one shared purpose: advancing knowledge through research and monitoring done by, for, and with members of the public.

Affiliate status includes 25 memberships per year. Membership benefits include professional development and networking through discounts for the AAPS conference, discounts for the journal Article Processing Fee, access to AAPS Connect, and options for joining working groups. 

Priority for receiving a free membership is given to: 

• Members of the Citizen Science Campus Steering Committee
• Students pursuing a graduate certificate in Participatory Sciences
• Other students or postdocs not pursuing the Participatory Science graduate certificate, but with demonstrated career goals that involve participatory sciences
• Faculty affiliates of the Citizen Science Campus. Faculty and staff involved in participatory sciences, whether for research, teaching, mentoring, or outreach and engagement, are welcome as faculty affiliates.

We ask that individuals only request sponsored membership to AAPS if they intend to take advantage of the membership, including through engaging with peers on AAPS Connect and/or attending the AAPS conference. We also encourage individuals accepting a sponsored membership to consider volunteering in a leadership role for the organization, such as joining a working group.
